Tinnitus Management

Tinnitus, or commonly known as “ringing in the ears,” is a widespread condition that affects an estimated 50 million Americans. Tinnitus is when you hear a ringing, buzzing, whooshing, or whistling sound in your ears or head when no other external sound is present. It can be sporadic or constant and is a symptom of an underlying condition rather than a disease itself.

Tinnitus can be caused by fluid in the middle ear, ear infections, high blood pressure, stress, loud noise exposure, impacted ear wax, and head or neck trauma.

Although there is no universal cure for tinnitus, there are many treatment options that can make it less of a distraction in your life. Some management options we offer at Lakeland Hearing Care for tinnitus include:

Hearing Protection

We are exposed to sound on a daily basis. Volume levels vary considerably and can easily exceed 85 decibels (dB) – the threshold that is considered safe. Any prolonged exposure to noise exceeding this is harmful and can cause permanent damage to your hearing. In fact, noise-induced hearing loss is becoming increasingly common in people of all ages. It is important to keep your hearing safe from loud noises and to be proactive about your hearing health.

At Lakeland Hearing Care, we can create custom earmolds that fit the unique shape of your ear to provide you with optimal hearing protection. You should wear hearing protection whenever you listen to live music, use power tools, use a lawn mower, ride a motorcycle, go hunting, or watch fireworks at a close distance.

Custom hearing protection is designed to allow you to still hear the sounds you want to hear while decreasing the volume on any harmful noises. If you are interested in custom hearing protection, contact our office for more information.
